Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH)

The Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), established in 1983, is one of the largest research centers in Greece. It functions under the supervision of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Lifelong Learning and consists of seven research institutes located throughout Greece. The research and technological directions of the foundation cover major areas of scientific, social, and economic interest, such as computer science, telecommunications, molecular biology and biotechnology, lasers, microelectronics, applied and computational mathematics, as well as historical and cultural studies. Over the years, FORTH has become one of the top European research centers, due to its high impact research results and its valuable socioeconomic contribution.

FORTH-ICS participates in with its Computational Vision and Robotics Laboratory that was established in 1985. The groups' activities emphasize research and development in the areas of computer vision and autonomous mobile robots with intelligent behaviour. More specifically, the research efforts are directed towards visual perception of static and dynamic characteristics of the 3D world (depth, shape, color, motion), object tracking, robot navigation and behaviour modelling.

FORTH is the leader of WP2 in RoboHow. Capitalizing on the existing expertise, FORTH will be contributing to the visual perception of a scene and the interpretation of instructional videos. The goal is to advance the state of the art in several dimensions, including detection and 3D tracking of humans and human hands, scene segmentation and object recognition and perception of the interaction with scene objects. Additionally, FORTH will contribute to the perception aspects of vision-guided robot manipulation of objects (WP4).
