Worldwide RoboHow Media Attention

We are pleased to announce that the RoboHow project has received major attention in media-outlets all over the world, including the MIT Technology Review and the International Business Times. While the review demonstrations from year 2 (pancake baking) and year 3 (pizza making) are the main focus, all aspects of RoboHow's autonomous robot activity is described in detail in over 50 different articles worldwide.

RoboHow partners selected for Google Summer of Code 2014

The Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IAI) at the University of Bremen, coordinator of the RoboHow project and maintainer of the CRAM and KnowRob systems, has been selected as mentoring organization for the Google Summer of Code 2014. The Summer of Code initiative, started in 2005, sponsors students during the summer months for contributing code to selected open source projects.

As part of the four proposed projects, different aspects of the CRAM plan language, the KnowRob knowledge base and the PRAC probabilistic reasoning toolbox are to be improved and extended. More information about the proposed projects as well as contact information of the designated mentors can be found at the IAI website.

RoboHow takes part in the European Robotics Week

The European Robotics Week is a yearly one-week event packed with robotics-related activities all over Europe to promote robotics research to the general public, inform about the state of the art and current achievements, and to motivate pupils to consider a job in technology-related fields. Activities include lectures, practical workshops for highschool students, lab tours, open days, exhibitions and more.

The Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Bremen took part in the Robotics Week 2013 with an event on November 27th. More than 70 participants came to the lab to see the PR2 robot in action as well as other exhibits of the wearable computing lab at the institute. 15 pupils spontaneously signed up for a robotics workshop on Saturday, November 30th.

IROS workshop Proceedings and presentation slides online

The IROS 2013 workshop on AI-based Robotics, co-organized by RoboHow, took place on November 7th at the Tokyo Big Sight conference center.

With more than 50 participants, it was very well attended and included talks spanning the whole range of AI techniques, from semantic perception, qualitative and hybrid reasoning to task- and motion planning. Five invited talks gave interesting perspectives on large efforts to bring artificial (and natural) intelligence to robots.

Next stop: Stockholm!

The RoboHow consortium meets twice a year for a week full of integration, discussions, presentations, hacking, and socializing – and this fall, we are heading towards Stockholm, Sweden! The workshop from September 23–27 is hosted by Danica Kragic and her colleagues at the CVAP at KTH.

On the last day, there will be the Robotics @ KTH event in connection to the inaugeration of the Swedish Chapter of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, including talks by RoboHow researchers Danica Kragic, Herman Bruyninckx, and Michael Beetz.
