Last week, the 2nd joint integration workshop of the project took place in Bremen.
PhD students and PostDocs from all project partners came to Bremen to work together
to integrate their results and prepare the first review meeting.
Participants split up into five sub-groups focussing on different tasks within the project:
Importing and representing tracking results from human demonstrations in the knowledge base,
executing constraint-based movement descriptions from the plan-based controller…text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:first_prize_in_chalearn_gesture_recognition_competition

The RoboHow team is back from a very successful ICRA conference in Karlsruhe. Seven RoboHow-related papers were presented at the conference, in addition to the following highlights:
* Prof. Aude Billard (PI in RoboHow) gave a plenary talk on “Teaching Robots to Cook, Relax and Play Catch”. The talk has been streamed to the Web, a recording will be available here.
* The paper ”A Probabilistic Framework for Task-Oriented Grasp Stability Assessment” Yasemin Bekiroglu, Dan Song, Lu Wang and Dan…text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:iros_2013_workshop_on_ai-based_robotics

The workshop on "AI-based Robotics" at IROS 2013, co-organized by Moritz Tenorth and Michael Beetz, will discuss recent advances in applying AI technology to robotics. In the past years, there has been a strong trend towards using semantic information in robotics, for instance in form of semantic maps, and we believe that having access to AI methods will be crucial for robots to become intelligent co-workers and skilled household assistants.text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:iros_workshop_proceedings_and_presentation_slides_online

The IROS 2013 workshop on AI-based Robotics, co-organized by RoboHow, took
place on November 7th at the Tokyo Big Sight conference center.
With more
than 50 participants, it was very well attended and included talks spanning
the whole range of AI techniques, from semantic perception, qualitative
and hybrid reasoning to task- and motion planning. Five invited talks gave
interesting perspectives on large efforts to bring artificial (and natural)
intelligence to robots.text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:next_stop_stockholm

The kick-off meeting of the RoboHow project took place on Tuesday, March 13th, at TU München. With more than 40 participants, it was a very successful meeting and a great start into this exciting project!
The meeting was complemented by a workshop about the different control
engineering approaches to be used in the project. Several talks gave
insight into the techniques used by the project participants and
highlighted their specific strengths and applications. They were
complemented by invited …text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:robohow-project-officially-started

On Thursday, 2nd February, 19:05, the German TV show “Galileo” on Pro 7 will show a report about Rosie and James cooking Weißwurst, Bavarian-style sausages. Rosie will be the one of the main demonstration platforms in RoboHow.
After the show, the video will be available from here: <http://www.prosieben.de/tv/galileo/videos>. As a preview, below is a YouTube video showing the Weißwurst experiment:text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:robohow_at_the_eurobotics_forum_in_lyon

The European Robotics Forum 2013 takes place from March 19th to 21st in Lyon, France. RoboHow will be presented during the ”AI meets Robotics... in Europe!” workshop. This workshop will bring together researchers from several European projects that do research at the intersection of AI and robotics. We are looking forward to fruitful discussions!text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:robohow_first_integration_workshop

We are happy to annouce that the first integration workshop of the project was very successfully. People engaged in mutual teaching activities, fruitful discussions on future research endavours and specified specific interfaces for collaboration.
As education activities several smaller workshops were conducted. The offered
topics were an introduction of the ROS middleware, how the iTaSC framework
and software can be used to specify desired robot motions, and best practices
for collaboration of …text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:robohow_in_the_news

RoboHow partners KU Leuven and Uni Bremen are co-organizing a workshop on “Programming with constraints: Combining high-level action specification and low-level motion execution” at the Robotics: Science and Systems conference in Berlin. The workshop aims at discussing problems that emerge in the interplay of high-level action specification and low-level motion execution. A particular focus will be on how constraint-based task description can bridge the gap between these representations, which i…text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:the_researchers_in_robohow_explain_their_work

During the recent RoboHow integration workshop, we used the opportunity that all project partners assembled at one place to record a video and let them explain their work in the project. A major topic of the workshop was the integration of software components developed by different partners in different work packages -- both regarding the underlying concepts and regarding the software itself. The video highlights some of the collaborations that are going on and their role in RoboHow.text/html2014-09-02T09:51:21+00:00blog:unihb-enters-consortium

Following the move of Prof Michael Beetz and his research group from Technische Universität München (TUM) to University of Bremen (UniHB), UniHB is now coordinating the RoboHow project while TUM has left the consortium. We would like to express our thanks to everyone at TUM who helped and supported the project in its early stages. We would also like to thank everyone at the European Commission and UniHB involved in moving the project from TUM to UniHB.
